A Great Opportunity

My daughter, Renek and I recently attended the 2010 BET AWARDS. She won an all expense paid trip for two to Hollywood & Los Angeles, CA. And who did she choose as her guest?...well, her Mommy of course. We were both grateful for such an opportunity! Though neither of us are star struck, we were looking out for spotted celebrities for everybody else, especially my sister LaTrice. Not too many in our view...sorry. You had a better view on tv than we did in our “good’ balcony seats.

When winning this trip, our first thought was such favor upon us. And then we wondered about our divine purpose for the trip. It still hasn’t quite been revealed yet. When I know, I’ll let you know.

Now, I know you’re wondering about the details you didn’t see behind the cameras. I’m sorry, but happy to announce there were no accidents or incidents to report…except the rude and loud guy directly behind us singing off key and spitting on our arms…ewhhhhh! And yes Chris Brown was as sincere as his performance felt. Even I was crying. I was happy for his return performance and honoring MJ in such a way as only he could. Just think, last year he wasn’t able to even attend the BET AWARDS due to reasons I’m sure you all know, but what a comeback! I’m rooting for him for looking in the mirror, but not being able to sing it.

The whole evening was organized and done with such professionalism. Renek and I looked fabulous, but I felt we were a little too dressed for the Hip Hop Awards theme. We really stood out like celebrities and everybody in our crew were sweating our MINX Nails done by STAR at Verve’. My purple and Renek’s lime dress were really shining that evening…but I think it was the light of CHRIST they were attracted to!

As I pondered on a name for the salon, I started saying my name aloud, “Verbena, Verbena…Verve’!” It was so clear when I heard it that I spoke it into existence. I knew it was just the beginning. The young woman I was servicing said, “Verbena, I think that’s a word.” I said, “It can’t be, God specifically downloaded that in me.” She said, “No, not Verve’, but, verve.” We immediately looked it up, and verve means energy, spirit, and life.
